A specialized instrument designed to evaluate the elastic recovery and tensile properties of rubber, elastomers, and flexible polymers at low temperatures. Equipped with a temperature-controlled chamber (capable of reaching -70°C or lower), precision clamps, and a force/displacement sensor, the tester operates through a standardized process:

 

  1. Stretching the sample to a predefined elongation (e.g., 100%, 200%) at room temperature.
  2. Cooling the stretched sample to a target low temperature (e.g., -40°C) and holding it to stabilize.
  3. Releasing the tension and measuring the sample’s retraction percentage over time, as well as the temperature at which full recovery occurs.

 

Key parameters measured include:

 

  • Retraction percentage at specific temperatures (e.g., TR10, TR50, TR90—temperatures where 10%, 50%, 90% retraction is achieved).
  • Elastic modulus at low temperatures, indicating stiffness or flexibility.
  • Failure points (e.g., cracking during stretching or retraction).
