Ozone Resistance Tester

Ozone Resistance Tester
A specialized testing instrument designed to evaluate the resistance of rubber, elastomers, and flexible polymers to ozone-induced degradation—simulating long-term exposure to atmospheric ozone to assess durability and performance over time. Ozone, a highly reactive gas, can cause cracking, hardening, or embrittlement in rubber materials, making this tester critical for ensuring longevity in outdoor or industrial applications.

Equipped with an ozone-generating system, temperature/humidity controls, and sample holders (including optional stretching fixtures for stressed samples), the tester operates by:

  • Creating a controlled ozone atmosphere (typically 0.01–100 ppm) with adjustable temperature (20–60°C) and humidity.
  • Exposing samples to ozone for predefined periods (hours to weeks), with options to apply static or dynamic stress (e.g., 10–50% elongation) to simulate real-world tension.
  • Evaluating degradation via visual inspection (crack formation, size, or density) and mechanical property changes (tensile strength, elongation).

Key applications include testing materials for:

  • Automotive & Transportation: Tires, rubber seals, hoses, and gaskets exposed to outdoor ozone in vehicles, aircraft, or trains.
  • Industrial & Construction: O-rings, conveyor belts, and weatherstripping in machinery, buildings, or outdoor equipment.
  • Consumer Goods: Rubber soles, outdoor gear, and appliance gaskets requiring resistance to environmental ozone.

Compliant with international standards such as ASTM D1149, ISO 1431, and DIN 53509, this tester is trusted by rubber manufacturers, material suppliers, and quality control labs. It provides data to optimize formulations (e.g., adding anti-ozonants), validate product lifespans, and ensure materials withstand ozone exposure in end-use environments—reducing premature failure and maintenance costs.
